A collaborative group of Google, Microsoft, Yandex, and Yahoo engineers created Schema (HTML Markup). It is an HTML language that gives information to search engines about how certain pieces of information should be presented in search results. If you have heard about “rich snippets” of information displayed in enhanced search results, these are made possible by schema markup.
Schema Markup allows you to boost your ranking on SERPs (Search Enging Result Page) by delivering snippets of useful and prompt information to potential website visitors. This is why it is helpful for your site’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
There are different schema markups for different types of information and developers and website owners can select the correct HTML markup from
schema.org and add it to their existing web pages.
For example, an
FAQ Page Schema is designed specifically for the question/answer format of FAQs, and Local Business Schema that allows the business to display their business information such as logo, business hours and phone numbers to Google and other Search Engines.
Below is the required information for generating Local Business Schema:
Note:
Images are required for generating
rich results.
Tip:
For best Schema results, add site images that appear on your homepage to Business Images.
If you have been keeping this data in your Content Library, Schema will generate it as soon as you have activated it. To ensure it is accurate, you will be asked to review the information. Once done, you can now enable the Schema.
In addition to the required info, you can also use optional information to generate Schema. This info, which includes Email address, Phone number, Social networks, and Business hours, improves the site’s discoverability and is well worth adding. If this optional information is not yet in your Content Library, you’ll see what’s missing and can easily add it and then enable Schema and publish/republish the site.
To ensure your Schema is valid, click the Validate with Google link on the Schema popup that appears. Alternatively, you can validate the site URL after the site is published using Google's Rich Results tool.
